Network; belated thought experiment

I realize I am posing further quandry without waiting for a first reply, but I have a few more specific notions.

I'm interested to know if modular predictions and/or continuous study of the SciIn network is in fact a focus of its conception or more of a happy accident monopolised upon. I ask because prior to accepting my current position I had begun preliminary planning for a grant studying the morphology of restricted access social networks. It would be a welcome diversion from my daily incisive observation as well as a useful vehicle for personal development to participate in the network's planning and implementation.
