One more thing - MSNBC, Gawker, and Village Voice have all pointed out that only five percent of Yemenis have internet access and thus won't notice that we took down their websites. First of all, we do more than hack websites, as should be clear from my Guardian column and other reporters. Secondly, taking down websites is done largely to get the attention of expats who are, on average, in a better position to wreak havoc on their government than would be a single fellow in-country. I'm working with expats from a certain small sub-Saharan country that will be targeted in the coming weeks, for instance, and they are able to provide a remarkable degree of intel as well as contacts. I understand that most NYC bloggers don't hang around with ex-CIA like we do, but some of these things should be obvious at least via thought experiment or, you know, research.
No problem, will do.--On Thu, Feb 3, 2011 at 12:50 PM, MICHAEL RILEY, BLOOMBERG/ NEWSROOM: <michaelriley@bloomberg.net> wrote:
Thanks, I appreciate it. If you give this to anyone else, could you just give me a heads up. That will give me an idea that I should move as quickly as possible. My preference is to spend a little more time and talk to the lawyers about this whole thing.
