a bunch of us at globalrev have come up with a sort of proposal how to jump start collaboration between all the distributed media groups and collectives around the world that have started since the begging of occupy and 15m. We are setting it up at n-1.cc which a federated social net used primarily by 15m participants. In our opinion it has the feature set and security framework that is sufficient to base our group there.
The address for the working group is
https://n-1.cc/pg/groups/1418014/occupythecomms/ it will have a number of subgroups setup (namely for ows, for spain, and by functional topics such as tweeter working groups to coordinate twitter campaigns, livestreaming working groups to coordinate livestream coverage and so on. The good part of this system is that people can subscribe to specific mailing lists they want to be on and the emails when using this system can be anonymyzed so that when you mail the list it will looks like the email will come from your username at n-1.cc. So for example we now have 1 subworking group setup which is spanishrevmedia - so the 2 mailing lists will be
occupythecomms@grupos.n-1.cc for the main group and occupythecomms+spanishrevmedia@grupos.n-1.cc for the subgroup.
n-1.cc is federated, so it works under openid platform - its a way to connect and allow people from different movement social nets to cross post and cross use their identity on other networks. (so its cross-operational with live.occupy.net)
The idea behind formation of this new group, is we wanted an open system not under corporate control to enable movement media makers to connect and coordinate their work worldwide. Also people can start making their groups and make them affiliated with occupythecomms etc. Most importantly, it will allow us to bring more people in without them being approved by whoever is managing the google group list - its a trully horizontal process.
The entire description of philosophy and ideas behind this group including decentralized media structures we are working on are in the group description on the above link.
We are also going to launch some real time chat setups that work off computers and phones to facilatate streamer/editor communication as well as real time twitting campaign coordination, and group editable collections of action and news information to be used by people editing videos and writing blogs and articles.
