The Italian police investigated a famous weeping Madonna case. This one was a print of a Madonna owned by a couple in Messina, Sicily, that they swore had wept blood. The house had since then been visited by myriad pilgrims. Finally, the police were able to determine that the blood was human and that the DNA belonged to one of the owners. The couple was convicted of abuse of popular credulity, something that Italian law considers a crime.

Megalochari, Great Grace, is the major Marian shrine in Greece, and the most religulous center of iconolatry on Earth. It is located on the island of Tinos. The church claims fifteen million members around the world, more than half outside the United States. All are supposed to tithe, or give 10 percent, of their income, which Mormons frequently interpret as pre-tax earnings. Most of the revenue is from the U.S., and a large percentage comes from an elite cadre of wealthy donors, such as Mitt Romney, chemical billionaire Jon Huntsman Sr., and J.W.
