Job Description:

The Technical Communicator works closely with development, quality assurance, product management, business analysis, implementations, and release management in a project team/SDLC environment. This individual is involved at project kickoff and is responsible for creating a number of standard and non-standard materials, using a variety of software packages.

Qualified candidates must be able to work with minimal supervision, to research and produce materials that are consistent with audience needs. Responsibilities include:
  • Work directly with target audiences and subject matter experts to determine needs, establish tasks and milestones, and acquire relevant information to produce and deliver materials.
  • Analyze, interpret, and extract information from complex technical and functional requirements documents.
  • Develop, author, and deploy online help systems.
  • Produce screencast recordings from internal training and product knowledge transfer sessions.
  • Design, upload, and manage content displayed on the team’s Intranet site.
Project deliverables may include: Online Help, Client Implementations/Set Up Procedures, Release Notifications, API Programming Manuals, Infrastructure Manuals, User Manuals, and Communications Plans.

Experience Required:
  • 2+ years experience writing and producing technical and user support materials for print and online delivery.
  • Experience authoring and deploying an online help system. Familiarity with CSS, implementing conditional text, and single-sourcing a plus.
  • Experience working with industry tools: Microsoft Office, FrameMaker, Flare, RoboHelp, VSS/TFS Source Control Repositories, Dreamweaver, SnagIt, Camtasia, and Photoshop.
  • Familiar with graphic design, usability/user experience, and web design concepts.
  • Experience in a software development environment and financial service industry concepts, terminology, and practices a plus.
  • Strong writing, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be an excellent planner, be detail conscious, and have exceptional time management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Some experience working within a project team/SDLC environment. Must be process and deadline conscious.
  • Excellent organizational and follow through skills. Must be able to manage all aspects of a task from concept through draft approvals, to final approval and distribution.
  • Must be a self starter. Ability to seek out alternate solutions if presented with scope changes or obstacles.
  • Must be able to create and work with templates and style sheets.
Skills Desired:

Education Required:
  • B.A. or B.S. degree with strong writing skills.
  • Degree in Technical Communications, Journalism, Communications, English, or related disciplines a plus.
