Hey, guys—
Checking in on this. Let me know where we stand, OK?
Thanks,

Hey Dan, me and Barrett have talked a bit and I am quite happy with what he is working on. He'll have an email together soon.
One thing we have to remember here is that me and him have been working on things together for a long time now, and have spent a lot of time around each other. This helps a lot, in that it makes it easy for him to have a good idea of where
my head would be in these situations. And he is spot on with this I think. Opening with something more recent and fast paced, then fading into the beginning of the story sounds great to me.

Dan, let me get a handle on this and then I'll get an e-mail ready for Julia that you can look at before we send.

Yes, I've already got it figured out.
Aside from the FBI call, Boston PD hack, Greece, Sweden, all that, the Haditha law firm thing just exploded, and you're in the right IRCs to have observed it; in fact, you're going to need to get back on media ops today and take notes about what you do so I
can use them for chapter.
Aside from what's already been found and all that, our friends retained access to the server after the initial raid. So they captured this:
West is Congressman Allen West.

Did she say anything about bringing in the stuff from the last few days, or is that all you? All I have had to do with that stuff is watching it from IRC and talking to the press about what happened and why. I was on CNN, The Situation
Room, yesterday for a few minutes. But its pretty standard stuff for me, shit hitting the fan, me watching, me talking to the news.
What do you think Barrett? Can you turn that into something worth writing about?

Set aside my last email...
What I'm going to need from you, a.s.a.p., is a "Eureka!" email. I need an email from Barrett saying that you guys have been talking a lot and came to the realization that it would make the book even hotter if you start w/ yesterday's events--
--and then, for the record, you need to detail WHAT those events are, taking nothing for granted, because we're not nearly so up-to-date as you guys are--
and talk about why, and talk about where Gregg fits there too, and how you're laying it out in his voice, his personal observations and knowledge and participation...
And THEN you need to explain how, by moving the COS stuff later [and you'll have to say WHERE it's going to go], you save yet another BIG section of Gregg's personal story [COS being the op that seems most inextricably tied to Gregg, the one where they came
after him personally] for further into the book...
And present all this not as a fait accompli, but as this great idea that you want me to take to Julia, in hopes that she'll see the value to it. Barrett (and Gregg), we need to SELL this to Julia, and make it seem that she's part of the conversation. If we
just drop this in on her--AND IF GREGG HIMSELF ISN'T COMPLETELY ON BOARD--then it'll feel to her like nobody's steering this ship, and confirm that Barrett's political goals for the book are at odds with her vision of this being, first, a PERSONAL narrative.
And if this happens, this close to our delivery date, all kinds of shit is going to hit the fan. And--unfortunately for us, but something to be considered here--WE STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED A CHECK FROM THEM.
So address this to ME, and we'll work on it on the fly...
Gregg, please weigh in here--
-D
