The Center for Inquiry just launched a
billboard/ad campaign last week for Black History Month, but the little bit of
press I've seen has been...well, it's what one would expect from most sources: "Black Atheists' Anti-Church Billboard Debuts for Black
History Month" (http://aahumanism.net/news). My boyfriend and compatriot Ian
Murphy recommended I send out information to Stephen C. Webster
and a couple of other writers who may be interested in covering the
story, so I'm sending this to
you.(Ian also tweeted
a link to the religion editor from The Blaze, who gave the story the headline "Atheists'
Anti-Religion Billboard Campaign Targets African Americans."
Yep.)
Summary: African Americans
for Humanism (headquartered at the Center for Inquiry) is putting billboards and
transit ads up in seven cities (NYC, Dallas,
Atlanta, DC, Chicago, LA, Durham NC) during Black History Month featuring
historic black humanists paired with modern ones. The ads
read, "Doubts about religion? You're one of many. African
Americans for Humanism. Learn more at WeAreAAH.org."
The Dallas billboard is going up this week, but it's already gotten
the most attention: http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/news/atheist-billboard-targets-african-americans-013112.
I know those are your old stomping grounds so wanted to mention that. Our
rep in Dallas is Alix Jules: alix_jules@yahoo.com, (972)
841-5166. Also, we already have four bus
shelter ads in Harlem, but on Tuesday or Wednesday they'll be joined by 90
subway ads.
Let me know if you'd like more information about this.
