Hope all is well. Crikey is organising a 45-60 minute online discussion (I refuse to use the word webinar) on 15 November to discuss issues around online activism and government/corporate attacks attacks on the internet. I wonder if you’d be interested in participating, to talk about issues like the significance of 2011 for online activism, the cyber security industry and how governments and companies perceive online communities and activists as a threat and act on that perception (I can provide more detail about precise topics closer to the time). It will pick up some of the issues I’m covering in a short ebook we’re publishing in the next few weeks focusing on government and corporate attacks on online communities during 2011.
The catch is the US-Australia time difference - the discussion would be taking place at around 9pm 14 Nov your time, which is highly inconvenient for a US participant, but it’d be great to talk to someone who’s not merely been involved with many of these issues but has been key in exposing issues like the links between government and the cyber security industry, and government investment in new media security tools.
Hope you’re interested and able to do it – let me know.
Regards
Bernard
