Guys—

Yesterday’s NY Observer piece was a good thing; and if, perhaps, the NYT runs something?  Then: sweet.

BUT:   this Tweet, below, innocuous as it is, concerns me.  Please, do not reveal anything more about what’s in the book.  Refrain from anything like this tweet below, OK?  Blowing up a storm over the book NOW is counterproductive for a thousand reasons.  For one thing, it’s going to invite all sorts of people trying to engage you—compliment you, debate your choices, call you faggots and junkies and all that other bullshit childishness that’s part of your culture.  Don’t take the bait, don’t respond, and don’t spill the beans.  On the most basic level, starting more or less RIGHT NOW, you do not have the TIME to waste on this kind of stuff.  This book is going to require your full-time commitment from now on.  More broadly?  The more you jaw about this stuff, the less there’s going to be to excite and surprise the media when the book’s published.

All the insults and (etc) that are going to come your way?  The only way to really shut everybody the fuck up is to write an amazing book.  Which you’re going to do.  The book will be the best imaginable come-back.

Cool?
