Yes, CENTCOM admitted to their use after it was discovered in February that the USAF had put out a call for bids on persona management software. Info on all of that may be found here:

We also have e-mails showing that several other firms are developing those capabilities - one of which, Mantech, was planning on offering Aaron Barr a job under a new subsidiary created for the purpose. Incidentally, Antisec released a number of documents on Mantech that were seized from the larger hack on NATO a few weeks ago. Here's a good summary of what else is known on persona management, including links to a 2007 patent by IBM with four U.S. military men listed as inventors:

Barrett-- that is pretty interesting. Can we establish that the government actually has a "persona management" operating going (as opposed to HB Gary trying to market it)?
i love the example, tho-- and would want ot know if the original Maxim girl-- Holly webber =- even knew that HB Gary was using her image.

Michael-

If you're inclined to do a piece on persona management and the like, let me know; we have a great deal of material on the subject and there's a new hook available as HBGary, the firm Anonymous hack, has been discovered to have deployed a fake intelligence contractor employee on Facebook and Twitter: http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/08/18/298081/hbgary-federal-us-chamber-persona/
