You and I are on the same page. Ethics and principles need to be brought back into this fight.

Yeah, I've been back in Dallas for a year now.

I haven't gotten back to them yet as I've learned that the fellows in Netherlands were arrested for things that couldn't really be described as legitimate activism, and I doubt any lawyer would be interesting in taking the cases pro bono; there's a great deal of stuff that's been done over the past few months that I can't really defend, particularly from the direction of Lulzsec. Already the big team being organized by Jay Leiderman has decided against helping out with one guy who cooperated with the FBI when he was initially raided in late January (and who of course got arrested and charged anyway last week), although the NLG will help him. The main reason I "officially" left Anonymous a few months back was that dynamic whereby in addition to attracting some of the greatest people in the world, it also brings in people like Ryan Cleary, who released IP addresses of AnonOps users and otherwise made every effort to try to get as many people arrested as possible simply because a couple of other people who ran the server took away some capability he had or some stupid thing. And Topiary and the rest of the Lulzsec people obviously did great things in hacking HBGary and whatnot but when they started to also just attack random people for fun, it did a great deal of damage to the credibility of the movement and specifically the thousands of people who didn't pull that shit just to entertain the media. A couple things, like attaching my phone number to illicit credit cards, put me in jeopardy as well. That's why I think the best way to proceed is for those people who want to pursue these things in an ethical manner to divide into smaller groups, such as the one I'm running, rather than continue on in this manner.

Cool - let me get my schedule worked out and hit you back. You're in Dallas?
Also, did those lawyers work out for the anons overseas?

Yeah, that'd probably be a good idea. You can stay at my place. Any time should be good for me.

Roger that; I recently scored free airfare within the states so could come hang out in August if you want to talk in-person. Although FBI would shit a collective brick.

Btw, are you bound to Texas or are you free to travel?

Also, if you ever want to join us in doing some counter-investigation, come by our IRC, irc.project-pm.org. We basically go through the HBGary e-mails and whatever other information is available and compile what we can on our wiki while also working with some of the better reporters to ensure coverage.

Barrett,

You should be sitting on the names of a few good EU-based lawyers; let me know if you need anything else. Keep your chin up.
