Barrett;
Please go ahead and forward this to the NLG.
That will give them the option of accessing my help if and when they wish
it. I’ll begin working on my end anyway.
If we are needed, having folks go through
you is likely the best way to go, and please do so with my approval and thanks.
You can mention my name to anyone, if you wish, as the lawyer for LocalLeaks
and HackerLeaks, because that has already been made public through a press
release by those sites. What we need to avoid is going public with the
fact that I already represent a purported Anonymous hacker in a pre-criminal
filing capacity. However, using my name might get a few more
So, in your sound discretion, proceed as
you deem necessary, and let me know if I can assist in any way. I haven’t
yet seen the indictment, but when I do I’ll get a better handle on it and
I’ll be able to give a breakdown of what everyone is really looking at.
I’ll look forward to working with
you, and please stay in touch.

Jay-
Thank you very much for your offer. I'm not yet sure what the NLG will be able
to do in California on this, so under the circumstances this will definitely
come in handy to have you available to refer anyone needing assistance to those
you have in mind. With your permission, I'll make it known that those who
expect to be tried in California should get in touch with me, and then I'll
send them your way; I won't mention your name to reporters, but instead simply
let them know that assistance has been offered in that state so that the
individuals in question are more likely to become aware of it via the press,
which is how I did it last time; let me know if that works for you. Also, can I
go ahead and forward this to the NLG so you can begin coordinating, or did you
want to contact them yourself?

Hi Mr.
Brown;
My name is
Jay Leiderman. I’m a criminal defense attorney in Ventura. I
saw your tweet regarding legal help for today’s arrestees. I
floated an offer on Twitter to help any righteous hacktivists busted in CA for
free a while back, and have subsequently developed an attorney – client
relationship with someone (I believe he stated he knows you) who expects to be
arrested and prosecuted at some point, perhaps soon, in the Northern District
of California. I have also become the pro-bono lawyer for LocalLeaks and
HackerLeaks during the last few weeks. Because of that, I cannot
represent anyone arrested today, but I am aware that there may be a few very
good S.F. attorneys that are well aware of these proceedings and might be
willing to step up and defend these cases. Though the arrests occurred
all over the country, it appears 12 of the 16 or more will be tried in the
Northern District of California, likely in the San Jose court. I’m
also aware that the NLG has a very strong CA chapter, and is more than capable
of handling this. I’m glad they have stepped up. It’s
time the legal community gave some backing to those fighting for our freedoms.
If anyone responds and needs representation beyond that which the NLG can
provide, I will try to arrange it. It will take me a few days to do so,
though inroads have been made already. I’d prefer to try to keep
this off twitter, but publicize if you feel it is needed. Last time I got
a bit flooded, but that was OK. Perhaps a better way to proceed, if you
choose, is to please pass this offer along to your contacts at the NLG, and if
they need help on additional defendants, or if their offer was limited to New
York, I’d be happy to see who will answer the call and step up and step
in to fight this prosecution. There are many in the legal community
that are interested in the cause. I believe some will be willing to step
out of the shadows as I did and take these cases on.
Please do
not hesitate to contact me if I can be of service. While I cannot offer
specific legal advice in this case because of my obvious conflict, I can still
point all in the right direction. Keep fighting the good fight, or
writing the good write, as it would be.
