Really appreciate it, Barry. Ad for the book, is this the one that's being self-published or what have you?On Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 6:21 PM, Barry Eisler <barryeisler@mac.com> wrote:
Okay, just forwarded to Jane. Hope something good comes of it.Nothing new here -- new manuscript due Aug 1 so that's eclipsed pretty much all else. Think I'm gonna make it...:)On Jul 7, 2011, at 3:53 PM, Barrett Brown wrote:I'll give to you, thanks. Also, Greg Hoglund, CEO of HBGary, drunk dialed me last week to, like, justify himself or convert me to the "national security" cause or something of the sort. It was the most irritating phone call I've ever received. Only good thing that came out of it was that he verified Romas/COIN in the course of defending its necessity. What's new with you?
Hi, Jane-
This is Barrett Brown; you sent me an e-mail earlier in the year regarding my al-Jazeera piece on Anonymous' work in North Africa. Barry just mentioned that you're looking for an editor and I wanted to submit myself for consideration, as I've "retired" from Anonymous. I've written for Vanity Fair, The Guardian, Huffington Post, New York Press, and other outlets, and served as chief blogger/editor for the CNET-affiliated startup Politicalbase for most of 2008. My first book, Flock of Dodos: Behind Modern Creationism, Intelligent Design, and the Easter Bunny, was released in 2007. Although I'm no longer involved with Anonymous, I'm still running Project PM, a group I put together for the purpose of carrying on a continued investigation into the intelligence contracting industry and the dangers it poses to democratic institutions; two weeks ago we released a report on Romas/COIN, an unusual classified surveillance program run by an unknown party within the U.S. military/intelligence community.
Please let me know if you have any interest in discussing this further. On Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 4:57 PM, Barry Eisler <barryeisler@mac.com> wrote:
Wanna send me a CV or something like that, and I'll pass it along? Or you can contact Jane directly and just mention I'd suggested you get in touch: firedoglake@gmail.com.On Jul 7, 2011, at 2:25 PM, Barrett Brown wrote:I'd definitely be interested, thanks. On Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 8:49 AM, Barry Eisler <barryeisler@mac.com> wrote:
Hey Barrett, just got an email from Jane Hamsher of Firedoglake. She mentioned that "we are looking for an editor for FDL. Someone young and tech-savvy who can deal with the fast-paced world of online news," and asked me if I knew anyone who might fit the bill. Interested? Or know anyone who might be?
Cheers,
Barry
