Hello Barrett, I have missed reading your articles ever since you stopped writing for True/Slant, but was glad to see you have a new article at the Guardian. I have chosen to write about the erosion of civil liberties in my Communications class, and since your new article is about invasion of privacy, I hope that you can serve as an "expert interview" for me. Even if you can only answer briefly, I would like to get your thoughts on these questions: Which freedoms (right to privacy, association, fair trial, speech, etc.) do you think have been eroded most in recent years? Are there any you think are relatively intact? Do you think in any case that this has been good and necessary or has it been all detrimental? Does the fight against terrorism justify any reductions in liberty, or are terrorism justifications just a ruse? Or maybe you have some thoughts about the erosion of civil liberties beyond these questions. I'm sure that being quoted in an undergraduate research paper will supersede the honor of writing for Vanity Fair and Huffington Post, so thanks!!! Richard Blackney Houston, TX |
