Dear Barrett,
Secular America faces challenges that are more complex than ever. Given the makeup of Congress in 2011, business as usual isn’t enough. We need to change the culture. Our movement needs to reach out to dynamic leaders with passion and drive to offer new ideas that will make the Secular Coalition for America smarter, better, faster, and help us reach our goal of building a strong secular future for America.
Two weeks ago, the Secular Coalition for America took another step toward building that stronger future by welcoming a diverse group of more than 100 secular American leaders to Washington, D.C. for our first-ever Biennial Strategic Summit. These leaders are game changers, and we put them to work on our strategic plan to restore secular values to American government.
You can watch a 5-minute video summary of the summit here.
By holding this summit in our nation’s capital, we helped to generate increased awareness about secular Americans and advance our public policy concerns on Capitol Hill:
This summit was a turning point for our movement. Don’t believe me? You can read blog posts about the specific summit experiences of a Marine Corps veteran, a former Muslim turned secular activist, and renowned author (and guest speaker) Jennifer Michael Hecht.
Today we’re busy planning implementation of several excellent ideas those leaders helped generate, and we will soon begin planning our next Biennial Strategic Summit in 2013.
The Secular Coalition for America is now an entrepreneurial business. Our mission is to advance secular public policies based on reason, science, and the separation of church and state, through lobbying and grassroots activism.
With your continued support, and active participation, we will put new ideas into action with diligence, energy, and efficiency, and with an eye toward new opportunities at every turn.
Please consider joining one of our donor Societies today, so together we can help keep America secular.
Sincerely,
Sean Faircloth
Executive Director

The Secular Coalition for America is the national lobby for atheists, humanists, freethinkers, and other nontheistic Americans. From our office in the nation's capital, our lobbyists and support staff engage public policy makers and the media on issues ranging from religion's influence on education and medical research to the privileging of faith groups by government. We are the first and only cooperative venture of freethought organizations coming together to improve the cultural and political situation of a previously unrepresented constituency: the tens of millions of atheists and agnostics in the United States.
