Looks like there are several groups and ops all looking at Echelon 2 to some degree. Here's info on a new one. It is just coming together with a good mix of peeps. Several you know. We're interested in how these tactics are being used on fb activists and anons presently. It has happened to me over the past couple of months by peeps I thought were friends and on the same side. Weird behavior started happening about every 2 weeks some weird drama to fuck with my head and heart... got sucked in and spat out a group of peeps. Several other friends that saw how it had effected me and slowed down my work on an op, each brought up that I needed to look into SE. I did just before LulzSec sent out the twitter mentioning the social engineering going on and that Barr could have several accounts...

Operation Echelon SE has been created from the "thought" of stopping the destructive use of Social Engineering (SE) tactics against anons and activists working on Ops.

The use of Echelon 2 SE was employed by Arron Barr, former employee of HBGary. These tactics of acquiring personal information on "targets" have also been historically applied, in part, by "hackers."

Some of the Echelon 2 SE tactics that are used are emotional and psychological manipulations i.e. friending someone and pouring on the niceness, feeding your ego and making a person feel that they are important or special to build up trust, so they can have emotional access. As quickly as they friend a target, they will unfriend them. In doing so, the target will feel isolated, confused, hurt or angry. The target has been put on an emotional roller coaster ride and is distracted from working on Ops. If the target was in a fb group and had become attached to friendships or working relationships, the effect of the tactics of isolation via "Quarantine" or censorship via "Ignored" or being booted can set the affiliated Op of the target (anon or activist) on hold or delayed by several months.

It appears that there is currently a blurred line of whether or not the use of Echelon 2 SE tactics is acceptable by Anon. The blurred line or difference in opinions is that between non-anon hactivists and anons. Anonymous is opposed to Censorship of all types, this includes the use of "Ignore" and "Quarantine" to prevent the Freedom of Speech. Non-anons and hactivists are of the opinion that these tactics are acceptable within the "hacker culture." Operation Echelon SE will seek to further clarify where the line is drawn when it comes to the use of these tactics being used on anons and activists working and contributing to Ops.

It is not the intention of Operation Echelon SE to feed the paranoia monster and sock puppets. The Op may monitor and investigate individuals or groups that have been reported as using Echelon SE tactics in a manner that is effecting an Op from moving forward. Just as importantly, collecting and sharing information to online activists on how to recognize the Echelon SE tactics and deflect them will be a vital part of this Operation.
