Hi Barrett, really sorry I missed this yesterday but I was out of town and didn't check my email. Could I call you tomorrow?

Best
Cassell

You can give me a call today if you'd like. I don't have e-mail addresses for anyone, as we only meet on IRC. You can connect to irc.project-pm.org #projectpm with an IRC client if you'd like to meet others.

Hi Barrett,

Thanks for calling me back and sorry I missed your call. I'd called as I wanted to circle back on something I'd mentioned to you a little while back about talking to more people involved with Anonymous to get a well-informed picture of how it operates, etc. You had kindly forwarded me Gregg Housh's details, who I had a good chat with yesterday. Could you send me some more people I could speak to? I'd welcome as many as you can send.

Also, if you have time later today or early next week, it would be good to pick your brains some more too. Let me know when would be convenient.

Kind regards,
Cassell

Cassell-

Did I ever get back to you on this? I'm sorry but my e-mail box is chaotic right now and I have a bizarre mix of things going on so I sometimes miss these.

Hi Barrett,

In trying to learn more about Anonymous -- the various causes it is backing, how it operates, etc, -- it would be great to speak to a selection of members. Would be able to put me in touch with some, ideally a bit of a mix geographically. Among those I've seen quoted previously in the press are Gregg Housh and Alex Tapanaris, do you have numbers for both of them? And, are there others you could put me in touch with as well, including ideally from the West coast as well as East, and any others from overseas? And, I'd be happy to discuss with them if they'd prefer to do it on an anonymous basis.

Thanks,
Cassell

Yes. I'm also a strategist and legal organizer. I don't hack, though.

Thanks for all of these. And, can we attribute the info to you, by name, as an informal spokesman for Anonymous?

Here's a chronological account of what we've been doing in terms of website takedowns:

 friday--irib.ir, irna.ir, sepahnews.com; monday--irib.ir,irinn.ir, ahmadinejad.ir, rajanews.ir

Also, http://irinn.ir/ was taken down earlier today and the gov't hasn't bothered to bring it back up even after we switched our targets to other sites.

This should give you a quick overview of the tactical side:

Iran was targeted pursuant to out strategy of putting our time and energy towards those countries that are best able to make use of our assistance. In this case, we have Iranian contacts that are capable of distributing the security expertise and software packages we have on hand that will in turn give the Greens an edge in avoiding government surveillance. Obviously, the people of Iran have already made clear their intent to revolt, which is a major factor in our decisions regarding who to support and when.

I'll see if we can download Skype on our work computers, but from memory I don't think we're able. Though I could Skype you later at home.

For now, I just had a quick couple of questions for a potential story for tonight. Mainly, can you tell me what Anonymous has been doing re: Iranian Web sites (ie which ones they've been targeting and since when?) and what the reasoning is behind it? And, do you know what the effect on those sites has been?

I'm afraid I'm not going to be near a landline today but you might try downloading Skype and calling me at barrett.brown33. In the meantime I can also tell you that I'm in early talks with a fellow who wrote the bulk of Nepal's constitution to create a sample framework for Tunisia that we would provide to them by way of a certain government minister. Another option for you is to  download an IRC client and go to irc.anonops.in and then #reporter or #opiran.

Hi Barrett,

Do you have a quick couple of minutes for me to ask about any Iran-related activity by Anonymous? (I did just try the 512 number you gave me, but for some strange reason it still doesn't work. Is there another number I could call?)

Cassell

Thanks. I did just try dialling the number below but am getting a recorded message saying the number can't be completed as dialled. Can I just double check the I have the right number: 512-560-2302? And, is that a US country dialling code or some other?
