Barrett,

Stop Republicans from ending Medicare. Sign the petition!

A surprising thing happened to Kathy Hochul on Tuesday.

A couple weeks ago, I asked you to support Hochul in a New York special election for Congress because this race would be our first test of how unpopular Republicans are making themselves with their push to destroy Medicare as we know it.

And I told you it was winnable, despite the fact that no Democrat has held this seat in over 40 years.

Well, supporters like you responded, and, in a devastating surprise to Republicans, this Tuesday Hochul pulled off a huge upset and won.

There are two reasons Kathy Hochul won her race. One, she is a great candidate and a Western New Yorker through and through.

And two, voters of all political persuasions clearly do not want to destroy Medicare.

Today in the Senate, we're getting a chance to deal the Republicans another blow when we actually vote on their destructive plan to gut Medicare and send huge new tax breaks to the ultra-rich.

If you haven't signed the petition Barbara Boxer, Patty Murray, and I started to save Medicare, please sign it right now at www.MedicareNotMillionaires.com.

The Republican plan is hugely unpopular, and if Democrats are able to defeat it and keep Republicans from gutting a system millions of workers have paid into for decades -- doubling their health care costs -- it will be a big victory for America.

If we're able to defeat their bill and win this special election in the same week, it could well turn the political tides in Washington and have a lasting effect on our policy going forward.

Citizen support has been crucial all along in fighting to save Medicare, and we saw Tuesday that it's paying off.

The Senate vote is in mere hours. We need to act now.

Help build citizen support to save Medicare in the final hours before the Senate votes -- sign the petition at MedicareNotMillionaires.com now.

Thanks for your support,

Chuck Schumer
