Yeah, just a traffic issue on corwin.org. Unsuspended by host, installed a page cache plugin thing to make static pages. I'm no techie.

It's probably just because the hosting is cheap, and we don't have a dedicated server. Corwin.org was on reddit tonight, so that's probably it. Otherwise, it would be Corwin who complained. Have not heard back from Fallon, publisher guy.

Insomuch as that you are officially running for Congress, the act of taking down both your publication and your campaign website is extraordinarily irresponsible and if it was done at someone's behest, they owe you that information. If they refuse - which is to say that if they allow someone to censor a journalist and U.S. candidate for office without being held accountable to the public - obviously we have a variety of means by which to ensure that the company will be known forever as one at which one's opinions and civic activity may be taken down without warning by one's enemies. It would take us about twenty minutes to make a national story out of this if they choose to do the wrong thing here. If this is anything other than a mistake they're going to be the target of massive publicity campaign right this instant.

Sure, I can do a podcast interview. And give me a ring if you like and I'll explain a bit more about the auto-personas. This piece by Ian Cobain, one of the journalists to whom we provide info, is a good introduction: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/mar/17/us-spy-operation-social-networksWe also have a wiki that we compile and which is then used by our network of journalists for background info; right now we're targeting Gamma International for having been caught offering IT intrusion software to Mubarak regime, which obviously would have used it to hunt down bloggers; successfully prompted Guardian, Tech Herald, and Forbes to cover the matter and are assisting a fellow at Bloomberg to do more intensive piece on them. Basically, I'm trying to popularize the methodology of the "crowd-sourced investigation," whereby individual citizens are encouraged to learn to use the latest in free information-oriented tools, assemble into small groups with varying backgrounds and skill sets, and investigate various topics involving potential corruption and malfeasance on the part of governments, corporations, and other institutions, then compile any info gleaned onto a public wiki which can be used to better display relationships via hyperlinks and whatnot and otherwise serve as a useful aid to any journalists or other parties who wish to pursue the matter further. Like a lot of our projects, then, Operation Metal Gear fills two functions - to promote further attention to the matter of autopersonas/persona management/advanced surveillance techniques by feds and contractors, and to train people in methods by which to facilitate media attention by making journalists' jobs easier. Bring a bunch of data to a reporter and he's more inclined to go after a particular topic. It's working quite well and at any rate I'm attaching the process to another campaign by which to encourage activists to form small groups and train themselves for advanced information warfare in general, as described in this guide I'm writing: http://pastebin.com/H1NEgdfjOn Tue, May 3, 2011 at 4:50 PM, Ian Murphy <ian.larry.murphy@gmail.com> wrote:
4 out of 5 auto-personas prefer Crest toothpaste?I would like to understand all that a bit better. You up for a BEAST podcast interview? Either way, we should talk. Let me know.On Mon, May 2, 2011 at 7:16 PM, Barrett Brown <barriticus@gmail.com> wrote:
Love it, sent it around and tweeted, etc.One issue that you might consider bringing attention to during the race: use of advanced and unaccountable surveillance methods by U.S. and English-speaking allies, including the auto-personas that we discovered through the HBGary e-mails and which CENTCOM has since admitted to using on foreign soil (as these are developed by federal contractors who seem to have a tendency to turn around and hire out these capabilities to such things as Chamber of Commerce and Bank of America, it's potentially a huge problem). We're compiling a wiki by which to provide a useful set of info on these issues and those involved in their development and working with about half a dozen prominent journalists to investigate further and bring greater attention to them. Also have some backchannel communications going on with some of the better congressmen who want to investigate. You should give me a ring sometime and I'll brief you on all of this; there are a lot of ins and outs, particularly since we got some informants from Booz Allen and a couple of government agencies and have also called up various execs and intel figures to confront them with the matter (recorded all of these, of course).--On Fri, Apr 29, 2011 at 6:12 PM, Ian Murphy <ian.larry.murphy@gmail.com> wrote:
In case you missed it: janecorwin.orgShit, maybe you put it on reddit. I dunno. 50,000 hits today, so not a bad stunt. Still plan on announcing the dream team soon, but coding made me busy this week.I have no idea how to make that site crush her .com in a google search. Maybe you know some tech geeks?
