Well, NY-26 is closer to Virginia than Brooklyn, if you know what I mean. We've talked about doing a reddit ama, but I'm rather sure we don't yet have the buzz going get anything like a steady flow of questions, which would kind of suck. Maybe later on that.
And, yeah, phone calls are good. I'm trying to work out something diabolical, as my chances of talking to someone as myself are pretty slim. I'm mostly being ignored by the local press and my opponents. I'm currently mulling a real-life troll, wherein I'd have to visit my opponents' houses and...do something. I may even volunteer for their campaigns.
We're working on spoof websites for my opponents, but all our "tech" dudes suck, not that I know what I'm doing. You know someone competent who can help on the free? We bought the .org urls, and someone copied their code, but it looks half wrong in firefox/chrome and all wrong in IE. Could be a marketing coup if we get the fucking thing happening.
More random thoughts: One of my opponents is also an atheist -- probably -- and not too open about it. But he's old friends with Paul Kurtz, and he's spoken at CFI. He's also a racist lunatic. However, it would be fun to sort of out him, since he's running on the TEA party line.
I'll try to come up with ways you can help out...I really need it.
I don't ask for money for this sort of thing anyway. Off the top of my head, we had a bit of success with Wynn's campaign (although not so much that he won, being an openly-atheistic candidate for a Virginia seat held by an incumbent Republican in 2010) by bringing him on to reddit and answering questions; I also had him declare that if victorious, he would create a subreddit by which anyone could ask questions or even propose policy suggestions and that these would be personally examined by himself at least once a month.
I should also note that, based on your background and the unusually witty manner in which you seem to be willing to conduct this campaign - which indicates that you are not a pussy and intend to dispense with the corrosive - I believe that there are any number of methods we could employ by which to bring attention to your candidacy and the issues it represents while also further exposing the degeneracy of the Republican establishment, as you've done a fine job of doing so far. For example, you could call up various local Republicans and ask them point blank about some or another issue on which they will obviously have no good answer - sort of as you did with that governor of yours except this time in your own guise - and record these exchanges, which will then be sent to the press and posted by ourselves in such a way as to guarantee attention. I've had quite a bit of luck with this tactic, which I used on HBGary CEO Aaron Barr on the day of the Anonymous attack and which may be downloaded from my Guardian op-ed on the subject here, via a link midway through:
Of course, that was a different sort of conversation insomuch as that Barr was prepared to speak to me and thus prepared to lie (of course he was caught lying when his e-mails were examined by the press). Here's a better example in which I call up Booz Allen Hamilton VP William Wansley out of the blue and ask him questions to which I already know the answer (you will be astonished to learn that he was also caught lying as well):
Obviously, you're fully aware of how a well-strategized phone call can reveal actionable intelligence, but I'm not aware if you planned to engage further in that sort of thing and if you had considered doing it in your own name as well. At any rate, this is the first thing that comes to mind. What do you think?
Hey. I'm very interested. And it's a huge plus that you're in league with Anonymous. I should note upfront that we've raised very little money and there's absolutely no way I could pay you. I suspect you're in it for the lulz, however. So, tell me more...
My name is Barrett Brown; I occasionally write for Vanity Fair, The Guardian, al-Jazeera, and other publications and served as an advisor to Will Wynn during his 2010 Senate race. Ellen suggested that perhaps you'd be interested in having me help with your campaign in some capacity. If so, let me know and I can tell you a bit more about myself. I should note upfront that I'm a sort of de facto spokesperson and activist with the Anonymous movement. I suspect this might be a positive in a campaign such as yours even if it might prove a negative in other races. Anyway, feel free to get in touch at your convenience.
