Metal Gear is the name given by Anonymous to a set of software/methodology implementations which are known to be used to some extent or another by a number of private firms and government agencies, including USCENTCOM. Persona management - the term for software-assisted procedures by which to operate fake online personas, in some cases via what would appear to be particularly advanced AI - comprises the bulk of what's been investigated, although this would presumably be used in conjunction with attribution (identification of those wishing to remain anonymous on the internet) as well as other forms of surveillance and data modeling of the sort conducted by firms like Palantir.
Since our investigation began - in the aftermath of another investigation in which some 70,000 e-mails were acquired from the criminal entity HBGary/HBGary Federal - we have been joined by a number of journalists hailing from The Guardian, Forbes, Tech Herald, and other media in investigating the nature and extent of Metal Gear operations. Nonetheless, many of the most important discoveries have been conducted via the Anonymous-led crowd-sourced investigation, the results of which are now being compiled on the forum and wiki linked above. We ask that anyone inclined to participate in such an investigation start with the links above and thereafter choose a particular entity - whether it be a firm or gov't agency or individual - to research, and then to add any information gleaned to the wiki so that the entirety of our data set may be accessed by all interested parties.
