An Evening With Ayman Mohyeldin of Al Jazeera English
|
Monday, March 21st
7:00PM to 9:00PM
CUNY Macaulay Honors College
35 W 67Street (CPW & Columbus)
Note: Event Location Differs From Our Usual
Cairo-based Ayman Mohyeldin - whose reports riveted viewers of the Al Jazeera English news service during the popular uprising that brought down Hosni Mubarak - visits
the New York Press Club to share his experiences as a reporter in the region and to talk about the unrest that is cascading across other kingdoms and countries of Africa
and the Middle East.
An Arab American journalist who lately has been reporting extensively on the Egyptian revolution, Ayman was previously based in Gaza and he was one of the
only international journalists to report from there during the Gaza War in 2008-2009. He has also reported on other aspects of the Israel-Palestinian conflict, sectarian
violence in Lebanon, human rights abuses in the Gulf and on political and social issues from across the United States.
Join us for an evening of Q&A with Ayman Mohyeldin and hear at first hand his experiences watching and reporting as millions in the Middle East and Africa rage against
the status quo.
Moderator: Stephanie Gaskell founder/editor, The War Report.
Free admission for NY Press Club members (RSVP please).
Non-members: $10, Students: $5. Visit our Website for more information and to reserve.

If you were not able to attend recent New York Press Club events featuring special guests, videos of the proceedings are now viewable on our Web site.
Among the notables whose appearances can be seen: Bill Keller, Executive Editor of the New York Times whose remarks about Fox News created a bit of
a ripple in the blogsphere last week; Mayor Ed Koch who touched on many topics having to do with current and past events in New York City; Governor
(at the time) David Paterson who talked about his administration in its final days; Ken Auletta whose insights into the media business are always
enlightening.
The videos and photos from most New York Press Club events can be found in our Multimedia Gallery.

The Constant Columnist: As Inevitable as the Met and Taxes |
The Tax Man cometh and our newest Constant Columnist, Julian Block, has contributed a number of pertinent columns about how journalists might best contend with the often
demanding annual tax ritual.
Block is an attorney, writer, and former IRS special agent whose down-to-earth prose and knowledgeable tips should help ease the burden of filling-in
the many blanks on your 1040.
Beatrice Williams-Rude - whose cultural reporting enlivens our Constant Columnist page (ditto the pages of Broadway After Dark and other outlets) - is on a tear
about a taxing matter of another kind: the "re-writes" of perfectly competent classic operas by ambitious creative types at the Met. (PS - don't get Beatrice started about
Faust.) Find out more about all of this in Beatrice's piece, "The Met, Opera and 'Concept Directors.'"
Everyone is invited to become a Constant Columnist. Submissions of all kinds are welcomed - instructional, observational, reflective, reactive - almost any kind of prose or poetry
is likely to be appropriate. The goal is to offer a potpourri comprised of many voices and disparate topics. Why let that brilliant rumination on the meaning of life moulder?
Send it in! (mailbox@nypressclub.org).
The Constant Columnist can be found on our Web site.

New York Press Club Spring "Mixer" at Blondies Bar
|
Tuesday, April 5th
6:00PM - 9:00PM
Blondies Bar
212 W 79 (B'way & Amsterdam)
Our first mixer of the year will take place in early April at a West Side watering hole popular with the sporting set.
But sports is by no means at the top of the agenda
so don't worry if you're not sure which local football team missed the Super Bowl by one game. The idea is to mix & mingle.
Join colleagues and friends for socializing and elbow-bending on April 5th (no cover, no minimum, no RSVP, sports-talk optional, non-members welcome). Hope to see you there!
