Greetings, Technorati Members and BC Nation...
On Technorati:
In the computer world, white and black hats used to be associated with hacking. But in the wake of Google penalizing Overstock.com for breaking Google policies on page optimization, the concepts of white and black hat SEO (search engine optimization) have gone mainstream. In the Business Channel this week, David Amerland explains what it’s all about. He also outlines how, with Google being judge, jury and executioner of search results, companies from BMW to JC Penney had better watch their steps when they roll into town.
It the Women's Channel this week, writer Susan Bearman talks about the unexpected deaths of two high school athletes in one week, and lays out at least one way that such tragedies can be minimized in the future: simple ECT screenings. It’s a must read-piece for parents of teenaged athletes.
In the Technology Channel, it’s (predictably) been an iPad kinda week, with a ton of information on Apple’s latest tablet. Among this week’s articles, Steve Sprague has a three-part interview with Giles Nugent, professor of an app development course (so he knows a thing or two about iPads). Here are links to part 1, part 2 and part 3. Mr. Sprague apparently didn’t feel that was enough choice information for iPad fans, and followed the interview up with a top 10 list of apps for any iPad. Then editor Lynn Voedisch brought up the issue of what effect the iPad 2 may have on the rest of the tablet market.
Finally, forget all the tech and tragedy for five whole minutes and stop by the Video Channel, where Curtis Silver has posted a link to a truly epic episode of Epic Meal Time. This week the EMT boys intend to “pass along their vast amount of knowledge… and get drunk.” A ham clock tower. Mmmm. Ham-ey.

Now there is a book that tells all about Britain's famed secret intelligence service, you know, the outfit that James Bond works for. In Books, Fitz reviews The Secret History of MI6: 1090-1949.
From history of spies to unrest in Libya: what's happening in the country may not be just a revolution. In Politics, Birgit Nazarian takes a look at big oil interests in the oil-producing country and how these interests may influence what ultimately happens in Libya: Big Oil and Intrigue.
From political and big business interests trying to alter reality, to the shenanigans of the mysterious Chairman—Philip K. Dick's novel about predestination, secret master plans and shadowy organizations in charge of our lives is now a movie. In Video, Cinenerd has a review of The Adjustment Bureau.
In The Adjustment Bureau, the hero and his love interest manage to escape the trap of the lives laid out before them by the Chairman's organization, but sometimes even the master of escapes can't escape one final trap.
In Culture, Victor Lana returns to Houdini's Grave while Harry H. Harrison Jr. asks, Where Have All the Good Men Gone?
In Music, Donald Gibson interviews three-time GRAMMY winner Lucinda Williams about the creative process of song writing, dispelling the myth that songwriters must be miserable in order to be creative. Her latest release, Blessed, is the “product of a very happy woman.”
