![]() Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is demanding that state police RELEASE THE NAMES OF EVERY PERSON IN ILLINOIS WHO HOLDS A FIREARM OWNER'S IDENTIFICATION CARD (FOID). To own a gun in Illinois, you must register for an FOID card. Up until now, the list of names has been kept private by state police, but Attorney General Madigan's office says the public has "a legitimate interest" in knowing the names of registered gun owners. ![]() This is an INVASION OF PRIVACY. We stand with the Illinois State Police in wanting to keep this information PRIVATE! Please join the CCRKBA in FAXING ILLINOIS ATTORNEY GENERAL MADIGAN and the Attorneys-General in ALL FIFTY STATES to express your opposition to this ruling, and make sure it doesn't happen anywhere else. We also need your immediate donation to the CCRKBA to help us protect the rights of gun owners across America and stop this kind of unconstitutional intrusion into the lives of American citizens. We ask for your committed support to help make sure our Second Amendment rights are kept safe. STOP THIS BEFORE IT SPREADS TO YOUR STATE... PLEASE SEND YOUR FAXES AND DONATIONS NOW! In September, the Associated Press requested the names of each FOID cardholder through the Freedom of Information Act. State police said no... and now Attorney General Madigan has ruled the names can be made public. Republicans have sponsored legislation in both the House and Senate arguing that gun owner information should be kept secret. Rep. Ron Stephens, (R-Greenville), who sponsored the bill, says, "You can own a handgun, and information about whether you do or don't is private information. There is no reason for anyone or any government agency to make available to you or anyone else whether I have a FOID card." He is right... There is no reason for any government agency to tell anyone you own an FOID card---NO ONE! ![]() We need to take action immediately and make sure we register our opposition to this infringement on our Constitutional rights. We stand with the Illinois State Police in wanting to keep this information PRIVATE! Attorney General Madigan's ruling puts every citizen's life at risk. Now criminals will know who has a gun in their home---and who does not. Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association, said releasing the names would be a mistake: "The gun owners always have a chance of being harassed by the press...and of course become targets for criminals, become targets for anti-gun zealots who want to make examples of them or harass them, so we think it should remain private and confidential," Pearson said. "When the FOID law was passed it was said that this would be private, kept confidential, and so everybody signed up for a FOID card thinking it would be confidential. Well, another case of the government changing their mind and jeopardizing the rights of its citizens," Pearson said. If the Illinois AG's ruling is allowed to stand, expect to see "copycat" rulings spring up throughout the country, especially in Democrat-dominant States who already have an anti-Second Amendment agenda. The events in Illinois could very well take us down a "slippery slope" of anti-gun laws. Barack Obama and his anti-gun ATF would love to see that happen. I can assure you the CCRKBA will be there to defend your rights every step of the way. Please make sure our rights are protected by sending your Faxes right now. Respectfully, ![]() Alan M.
