Some chilling news: Creationism has 9 lives--at least when it comes to proposed bills in states across our fair union. With the introduction of Texas House Bill 2453, the number of antievolution bills proposed in the last 10(!) weeks hits 9 (nine). That's a record, alas. The details:

* The Texas bill would prevent an "institution of higher education" from penalizing teachers or students who "conduct...research relating to the theory of intelligent design or other alternate theories". Yikes.

* Florida Senate Bill 1854 would require a "thorough presentation and critical analysis of the scientific theory of evolution" in the state's public schools. Hmm. http://ncse.com/news/2011/03/antievolution-legislation-florida-006524

* Why isn't evolution being taught? Who really controls America's classrooms? What about that "60% of 'cautious'" science teachers? Berkman and Plutzer have the answers--and we have an exclusive chapter for download at: http://ncse.com/files/pub/evolution/Excerpt--Berkmanb.pdf
