While everyone was looking a Libya and worrying about what Gaddfi would do next, the Egyptian army made it's move on the protesters today.

At WL Central we broke this story more than an hour before Al Jazeera! (or anyone else as far as I know)
Shortly after midnight, local time, the Egyptian Army started removing peaceful protestants from Tahrir Square with tasers and sticks. Masked men, machine guns and snipers were also reported to make part of the operation. "Army was brutal", quoted some protesters via Twitter. Near 100 people were arrested, according to witnesses. The Army also attacked protesters gathered at the Egyptian Parliament.@Cer Mohamed A. says "When I was beaten by #police, I was furious. Today, when I was beaten by army, I feel very very humiliated".
My name is on the article but it was a staff project. I noticed the stuff on the Twitter feeds and started a chat in the WLC newsroom @ 16:15 pst. 75 min later we had our ducks in a row and went live with the story. I was wondering why AJE wasn't on top of this. They had to be seeing the same Tweets we were, anyway they finally put something up on the web after we broke the story. Journalism in the 21st century. Follow the link above for videos, tweets and updates.

So much for Egyptian armies promise not to use violence. This would be a good place to remember the links I sent to you before:

2011-02-14 Senior Egyptian army officers ordered massacre
Are "mutinous officers" are being executed in Egypt now?

I am also working on a short documentary about events surrounding Tahrir Sq. the night of the aborted massacre on Jan. 30. When you line everything up it makes for a strange reading. There were a lot of high level meetings and conferences between U.S. officials and their Egyptian counterparts just before, which makes you wonder just who was in the loop on this. Everybody's position seems to shift the next day. Also there is this comment Hillary Clinton made on one of the talk shows that morning "unless something grave happens overnight." Well it didn't but now they show their teeth.

And here is some new stuff I haven't sent you before:
2011-02-24 Arming Gaddfi
Libyans are spilling their blood for us all!

If you don't know WL Central you should. We cover a lot of things nobody else does and we cover other things before anyone else does. We are especially good on the Middle East, North Africa, Africa, Anonymous and all things WikiLeaks.

More later...
