Cheesehead Rally NYC #2

On Tuesday at 5 p.m., let's rally again in solidarity with Wisconsin workers against union-busting Gov. Scott Walker!

Last Friday in NYC - on just 24 hours notice - about 100 grassroots activists rallied in front of CNN, NBC, and FOX. We had a great time and got some great publicity.

On Saturday, 70,000 activists protested against Gov. Walker in Madison, Wisconsin. The Tea Party mobilized a counter-protest to support Walker, but got a tiny turnout of just 2,000. We beat them 35 to 1!

So we'll have a victory rally on Tuesday in front of the real Tea Party headquarters: FOX News at 6th Ave. and 48th St. We'll start at 5 p.m., exactly when Tea Party leader Glenn Beck goes on!

Beck insists the American people support him, but we'll show him the American people really support our teachers, firefighters, police - and our unions.

Make your own signs. Wear Packers gear (or just green/yellow) and cheesehead hats (we'll bring a few to share). Bring your smartphones and cameras to tell the world!

Toward Single-Payer Health Care Reform in Vermont

President-elect, American College of Physicians

In 2010, the Vermont state legislature passed a bill mandating universal health care. The bill required a study of three reform options. Dr. William Hsiao, the Harvard economist who designed Taiwan's single-payer system, was chosen to conduct the study. Vermont's new governor Peter Shumlin ran on a single-payer platform and is intent on moving forward in consultation with Dr. Hsiao. Will Vermont lead the country to single-payer?

DL21C welcomes Congresswoman Yvette Clarke

Join DL21C'ers Wednesday night for a conversation with Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, who will discuss working with a new Congress, and her legislative work on immigration and gun control - two controversial national issues that have very local implications for Clarke's district and for New York City.

It's been nearly two months since the tragedy in Arizona, which re-opened the gun law debate. Despite the calls for reform, the likelihood of federal legislation passing - even on background checks or an assault weapons ban - remains in question. Comprehensive immigration reform is also stalled in Congress - a cause that the Congresswoman has championed, as she represents one of the most diverse Congressional districts in the nation. Congresswoman Clarke will speak about the challenges of working legislation through the new Congress, her personal friendship with Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, and much more.

This is the first of several domestic policy conversations DL21C will host this year with elected officials and leading opinionmakers....
