Anonymous – the vague group of internet “hactivists” – has just issued a video press release in support of protesters in Iran. The group has been very publicly involved with the recent tumult in the Middle East, most notably carrying out distributed denial of service attacks. However, things now look to be heating up, and Anonymous may just have a far more powerful weapon in its online arsenal.

Well it has finally happened; someone has combined the retro game movement with fan fiction and created The Great Gatsby flash game. And let me tell you, old sport, it’s the cat’s pajamas! As our own Oliver Miller writes, the back story that this was a real Nintendo game found at a garage sale is obviously all wet, but that doesn’t mean the creators haven’t put on the Ritz in making this an authentic looking NES-era side scroller.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced unequivocal support today for Iranian protesters, who took to the streets in support of the recent revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia. Continuing the saga of democratic agitation in the middle east, Secretary Clinton’s response finally throws US support behind the largely young and democratic protesters who have unexpectedly emerged as a powerful and technologically-sophisticated force in the region.

Only once in our lives are most of us presented with the opportunity to name ourselves. At birth we have no authority over the choice of moniker that will identify us for the whole of our days on earth. That responsibility rests firmly in the hands of our parents. If, upon his arrival from the womb, Dweezil Zappa had been consulted about his name, I’m guessing he would have exercised his veto power and opted for Mike or Steve. Those names make third grade a whole lot easier.

Not just your Grandma is watching Jeopardy this week. The IBM Jeopardy challenge began yesterday, which pits IBM’s supercomputer Watson against Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings, the two best players in Jeopardy history. Watson, Rutter, and Jennings will play two games over the course of three days, and so far Watson has proved a formidable opponent.
