SPLC Lawsuit Restores LGBT Students' Rights
An SPLC lawsuit has protected the rights of two lesbian students in Minnesota's Anoka-Hennepin School District. Desiree's and Sarah's right to participate as a couple in their school's Royal Court procession was restored after the school altered the event to keep them from walking as a couple. The school district has been beset by a string of suicides—including by several LGBT students who suffered harassment from their fellow students. The case is part of SPLC's ongoing work in the district to address anti-LGBT bias.

SPLC Warns of Costs of Local Anti-Immigration Laws
A new SPLC report has found that draconian anti-immigrant laws enacted in communities across the country have burdened taxpayers with millions in legal expenses, inflamed racial tensions and devastated businesses. Many of the laws have been promoted by FAIR, an anti-immigration organization which SPLC lists as a hate group.

Turning Social Media to Social Justice
The latest issue of Teaching Tolerance magazine explores educators' and students' use of social networking to promote social justice. Other articles examine combating bullying and anti-Muslim bias, as well as how to encourage girls and students of color toward science and math classes. Teaching Tolerance is distributed free of charge to more than 400,000 educators nationwide.
