I have no idea and unfortunately, I did not see the comments before they were deleted. I did see your queries as to what was going on this evening and found them to be to the point and well put.  My only answer is that there appears to be a new mod (I can't remember his nic at the moment) who got into a back-and-forth with poster 'Charles Needs a New Gig' and boasted that he could take down or modify the latter's posts at will.  It was apparently true, and he came off as being a total jerk-off.  He's probably your man.  My suggestion (if you even care that much about it) would be to repost your deleted comment(s) on a new thread and see what happens.  One of the hallmarks of DoD was a great latitude in liberty of expression, and I believe that's still the case. Since I didn't see the comments that were deleted, I have no idea of their tenor or content - or how they might have been perceived by whoever was in charge of the site at the time you posted.  As you've certainly understood by now, there's a strong neo-con base at DoD which feels threatened by most any ideas and attitudes which are post-Cold War.  They are binary thinkers and have neither an understanding of the new century nor much tolerance for the emergence of new paradigms. Everything is based on past experience and there's little place for anything that doesn't correspond to their pre-estabished world view. And despite the fact that a number of DoD's best elements are favorable toward you, these retreads will always be snapping at your heels.  My own advice is to save your energy for more rewarding activities and post on DoD  during those odd masochistic moments when you're in the mood for a dumb accusations and have the time and energy to refute them.  In the scheme of things, what can DoD possibly represent?   Whereas a piece in Huffpo or The Guardian provides you with the stature and credibility that your LGF and DoD ankle-biters can and will never be able to rival, and which certainly makes them even more ill-disposed towards you.  As the old adage goes, "The dogs yap while the caravan passes."  I wouldn't be to affected by the yapping - although I and others do enjoy watching you shut them up using cold logic and the sort of economy of words that's proper to dismissing one's intellectual and moral inferiors.

In short, for better and occasionally for worse, just continue being yourself and above all, enjoy the trip.  It's what life is all about, after all.  Ya Mama!

Any idea why someone is lying at DoD about why my comments were deleted last night? One fellow claimed he took them down to "show me" that I couldn't threadjack, Daedalus himself knew nothing about it and told me so, and then an update goes up saying all the admins decided to take them down. I asked about it today (and posted the same NYT link, which was of course responded to with questions and insults as usual) and just sent e-mails to Daedalus and Chen Zen but have no idea what to think other than that the explanation is clearly bullshit.
