I will get back to work on this dummy guide and try playing around with it when I can get to a land line, haven't had one for a few years.  I've been over to Telecomix IRC a bit pitching for translators and scoping out their telephone number postings. I'd be happy to do non-technical collaboration with them, or if someone could direct me maybe I can do more. 

Yeah, post-anesthesia can suck, it takes a while to get out of your liver since the gas is lipid soluble. Probably good to do some of that Alli shit and lots of olive oil after to get rid of it faster. Depends quite a bit on how heavy handed the anesthetist is, how dosed you feel afterward. Lots of times you can choose a regional anesthetic instead, but in general, general anesthetic is extremely safe and has a much better safety profile than a local or regional.  I actually loved that rotation and probably should have done it as a specialty.  Nice to get people happy, amnesic and waaay comfortable all day long (med slang ->sandman) ;p

The way i see this, it is a very effective tool in our arsenal to get communications out of disaster or censorship zones. I hear rumors that Egypt will restore Internet acces by Tuesday, but IMO we should still pursue it.

It's also a great way to get people involved in the info war with a low barrier to entry and a real effect. I think of all those people who posted on facebook about tunisia but didnt get off their butts to do anything else. This is free, easy, and provides serious support. To my mind it's perfect.

On a related note, word on the street is that the Egyptian government is only censoring DNS - the system that translates names like google.com into the IP addresses that computers actually use to identify each other on the Internet.  So one big solution is to offer people a public dns (or why not just use Google's? 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), and give them instructions on how to change their internet settings accordingly.  Another is to give them the IP address for big sites like Twitter and Facebook, or IRC.
