I should tell you that, although I grew up with blacks here and in Africa, racism has never been one of my big concerns until fairly recently, when I got a chance to see what happens through your eyes and the eyes of others. Now I see a bit more clearly what happens every day and to what extent those forces are still in control. I don't think it's common to get more militant as one gets older, but I have.
