An Evening With Mayor Ed Koch - THIS WEDNESDAY
|
Wednesday, January 19th
CUNY Graduate School of Journalism
219 W 40 Street (7th & 8th)
7:00PM to 9:00PM
The New York Press Club welcomes former city councilman, congressman, and mayor, Ed Koch, for an evening of Q&A about himself and other topics as they arise during the
ebb and flow of the evening.
A tireless champion and promoter of New York City with an impressive portfolio of political accomplishment locally, domestically and internationally, New Yorkers know Koch to
also be an effusive lover of life.
As unpredictable in his personal pursuits as he is in politics, Koch is a best-selling author, actor, movie critic, political commentator, educator, and practicing attorney.
Those with long memories will recall that the former mayor ascended to the bench when TV's legendary Judge Wapner retired to preside for two seasons over the "People's Court."
Join us for what is sure to be a scintillating and memorable evening with the man who many feel epitomizes New York.
Moderator: Mitch Lebe, Metro Networks.
Free admission for New York Press Club members (RSVP required).
Non-members: $15, Students: $5. Visit our Website for more information and to reserve.

Personal Tax Prep Seminar for Journalists |
Monday, January 24th
CUNY Graduate School of Journalism
219 W 40 Street (7th & 8th)
7:00PM to 9:00PM
Can a reporter deduct personal cell phone expenses on her tax return? What about that new laptop or iPad? Press Club membership dues?
Before you prepare 2010's return, hear from experts what sorts of common and not-so-common expenses journalists may claim. Our panelists will provide valuable insights into the vagueries of the 1040 Form and its many schedules and will offer tips for preparing returns that are less likely to raise red flags at the IRS.
Staffers and freelancers alike will likely benefit from the guidance and practical knowledge of panelists Alan J. Straus and I. Jay Safier, noted CPAs and members of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Moderator: John Lieberman, CPA/PFS (and Press Club member).
This event is free-of-charge for all. Please RSVP to let us know you will attend.

Become a "Constant Columnist" on www.nypressclub.org |
Our Website has been revamped to better expose content that had become hard to find as the previous version grew and grew. We've also introduced some new features to better serve members and of course will be regularly adding others.
One such is a soon-to-launch page called "The Constant Columnist." Open to contributions from all, there is no theme or strict premise.
The Constant Columnist is not a blog, discussion forum or overt advocacy space. It is intended as a platform for those interested in journalism to post pieces of general and specific interest to like-minded readers. These can be instructional, observational, reflective, reactive - pretty much any kind of prose is likely to be appropriate. The goal is to offer a pot-pourri comprised of many voices.
An illustrative graphic is OK to include. Please be mindful of credits and copyrights. Submit pieces as plain text if possible
(in the body of an email or as an attachment) to mailbox@nypressclub.org, Subject: Constant Columnist.
