Sorry for the delay in getting back on this.

I wonder if the people might be insulted by being told that they are on probation. It is one thing to not be invited - they may not know about it or the criteria for joining. It is another thing to be told that one's value is in doubt.

We're discussing whether or not the PM blog schematic should include a probationary period for new participants and if participants should have to accumulate "points" based on some neighbor-driven performance indicator and be able to bring in new participants by "using" those points. I and some others don't think such features would be for the best and some bloggers I've talked to don't seem to like them either, but Campbell Vertesi and some other PM members think these will provide value in terms of overall participant quality.
