Hi Barrett --

I can see it cutting down on participation more than increasing quality. If I understand the plan correctly, writers who consistently post material of questionable or poor content will not have their work pushed through the system. An additional probation/points system seems an effort to operationalize something that should be an organic part of the overall structure.

But then again, I may have this all wrong!

In any event, sending you wishes for all the joys of the season,

Sirs-

We're discussing whether or not the PM blog schematic should include a probationary period for new participants and if participants should have to accumulate "points" based on some neighbor-driven performance indicator and be able to bring in new participants by "using" those points. I and some others don't think such features would be for the best and some bloggers I've talked to don't seem to like them either, but Campbell Vertesi and some other PM members think these will provide value in terms of overall participant quality. If any of you have any input, do please let me know as we're hoping to decide the issue this evening. Thanks.
