Thanks, Barrett, I'm working a post right now. I'll link to you there as well. I'd also love to hear what you think of this :

"There is no good reason I can see why science funding could not be made subject to democratic decision-making. Yes, it will hand power to non-experts, but so does the present system: non-experts in the state and private sector often have a decisive say in what scientists study."

That's great, Kenneth. Are you planning on doing an update on your blog soon? If so, let me know and I'll link to it in an update at The League.

Barrett. Emma,

I submitted the grant proposal today for the initial phase of Praxis, which will be the establishment of a research/literature network and cache as the matrix for four nodes (in Malawi, Ghana, Ethiopia, and South Africa). I have yet to make a good contact in Ethiopia. In Ghana a highschool friend directing an orphanage will serve as local resource until I can establish relations w/ the university. Primary contact in Malawi, until I arrive, is Dr. Jonathan Cullman, of Wellcome, at the the Uni of Malawai in Lilongwe. In South Africa we will be partnering with the CSSR (center for social science research). Also, and this I'm particularly excited about, we have an arrangement with African Journals OnLine(http://ajol.info/) to help in making intra-continental access to scholarship more amenable to penniless academics. Also speaking with International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications http://www.inasp.info/, and World Wide Science http://worldwidescience.org/index.html.
Barrett, Project PM is referred to in the proposal as a collaborator. Emma, your email address has been given as a primary contact. More web addresses and contacts forthcoming

Peace
Kenneth
