That's a fantastic idea, and I'll make sure you get any Afghan cables of note that are dug up in the meantime.

Cool, thanks dude. basically looking for just Afghanistan related cables--I'll start the search in full once I get back to the land of high speed internet. i'm doing a behind the scenes narrative of the war in my book, and i was thinking to try and incorporate the leaked material into the narrative--which i think would be the first time wikileaks material has been put to use in traditional non-fiction book form(my book comes out this summer.)

It's difficult to get in touch with them regarding something like that, and they're intentionally releasing the archive gradually so as to give the media a chance to at least pretend to cover the stories. Having said that, Anons are currently going over the thousands released today and yesterday in order to find and publicize the most important by way of Operation Linkspin, which was announced a few hours ago, as I detail in this morning's update at the League:Anyone can get involved as much of this is being done at reddit, link found in my update. We need more people to do so as well as to blog and vlog about these things in order that the media is at least somewhat forced to actually cover them.Still, I'll ask around and see if I can obtain any cables early for you.

thanks v much dude. i have been trying to get a copy of the cablegate archive from wikileaks, but haven't been successful yet. i assume that is because they are completely swamped and under attack, but if you know anyone involved, wld be grateful for an intro.

Is the book the one you discussed with me a while back, fictionalized version of your experiences at Newsweek? Or something else?

Sorry to hear about your friend Sean, my condolences.Well, you were way ahead of the curve spotting wiki/anonymous, for sure. i was trying to do my part last week when cablegate broke, going on tv and arguing with various assholes who really are just so totally corrupt it's hard to comprehend...but then have been overseas since last friday and working on a story that shld be a decent one...Yeah, I have to get hooked up with you guys. I am totally under water with R.S./book commitment, but maybe can figure out something to do on this next story or when the book comes out or something. But yeah, this Cablegate is really making it clear that our national security state is operating in a moral vacuum and is almost completely unchecked...On Fri, Dec 10, 2010 at 11:46 AM, Barrett Brown <barriticus@gmail.com> wrote:
You don't know the half of it. I just had someone ask me, "Do you really think people in Anonymous give a shit about Nigeria?" in response to my noting that Shell has overrun the country. I explained to him that Housh, who was one of the five who launched Chanology and Operation Payback, built and maintained a website, 0v.org, which focuses on lesser-known charities and has now asked us to help him run it, and I've already put my de facto assistant Emma in charge of that. Additionally, several other Anons have joined Project PM in order to assist with their work, including Sean Carasov, whom I've known since 2006 and who killed himself a month ago. I don't know of a single other group whose members are more likely to get involved in efforts to improve the world. Now that Housh is with PM I'm going to be further integrating Anons into various structured projects while also making their case for them through my various outlets. There's a lot of exciting stuff happening right now, Michael, thanks to you and the various other individuals who have taken the initiative in rewriting the rules.

Hey, saw that you were tweeting some of my old pieces on Anonymous. Here's something more extensive and current. Also, Housh joined PM yesterday and is merging a charity information site/ap he made with our Africa project and now hangs out in our IRC chat. He's the one I mentioned to you a while back that I've long been in touch with; turns out we had a mutual friend the whole time, too.

hey dude, thanks for the note. can't wait to check it out--actually, i went on a binge earlier this year and read like 5 novels by eisler, funny coincidence. yes, would like to be involved--i'm basically trying to finish a book on deadline right now, but when i come up for air, we should talk about it. congrats about the skits--would love to hear about it.

Good to hear from you after all this time. I'm still down here in Dallas, and you're always more than welcome to come down - in fact you'll get a hero's welcome from my Vietnam vet uncle and various other liberal relatives I've got down here. Also, are you back in Vermont these days? And what are you working on? Project PM has really taken off ahead of our formal launch next year; we've got tons of new people, including a large number of prominent scientist, plus a former CIA Special Operations agent named Barry Eisler who writes thriller novels and who's actually about to start blogging at The League. The software is now being written as I've also brought on programmers. We have online meetings on our IRC channel every Wednesday evening at 7 pm EST if you'd ever like to check in on what we're up to. Meanwhile, I'm doing skits and a film treatment for a producer out in LA who works with Will Ferrell/Adam McKay's production company, served as advisor to a congressional candidate in last election cycle, and a bunch of other stuff. If you ever want to collaborate or otherwise get involved in some new projects, let me know, because we've got tons of shit going on these days.
