Donald, you've refused to even acknowledge my actual argument regarding McCain's racism, including that he wrote for a white nationalist publication under a pen named inspired by a theologian who is known today mainly for his defenses of slavery, and who has also claimed that it is not racist to prefer not to business with a black bank teller. Obviously you're not obligated to restate the case against McCain in public and I can't make you accept anything as truth, but those are facts that neither you nor McCain nor any of his defenders have had the courage to answer to. Instead you generally pretend that my case against McCain consists merely of him being a member of the SCV, which is something I would obviously not take to conclude that someone is racist without accompanying evidence such as exists here. I'll say that I don't think it is a fair or accurate impression that you are giving to your readers on this subject, but, again, he's your friend and you're both in a big tent together and obviously we're not always going to agree on what's right and wrong. At any rate, congrats again on the benchmark, and stay in touch.

It can, if one's really get sick of the fighting. And I'll be damned but I don't find anything racist about Robert Stacy McCain. He's not even that politically incorrect, considering the competition across the 'sphere.DonOn Sat, Dec 4, 2010 at 9:52 PM, Barrett Brown <barriticus@gmail.com> wrote:

Okay.Good luck with it.McCain's written that he's knowledgeable of libel law and that you have no case. He notes that his prose includes qualifiers such as "seems" and "probably" that make his essay conjectural.I'm taking my son to the stakepark, in any case.Talk to you later.DonaldOn Sat, Dec 4, 2010 at 10:53 AM, Barrett Brown <barriticus@gmail.com> wrote:
Thanks for the offer, but I'll be communicating with him through my lawyer shortly. I'll be making a very reasonable request to him that won't even require him to take down the post, but rather to provide a reasonable view of my response to his readership and to anyone who might happen upon that post in the future, as I have already asked him to do.As for my reaction, at first it was to merely respond to his claims and politely ask that he at least link to it so that people who read these claims that I'm delusional can also see the proof that his examples are demonstrably incorrect. Such claims are not only false and knowingly so but are also detrimental to my ability to earn. Rather than allow that to happen, I am choosing to seek a reasonable accommodation of my rights. On Sat, Dec 4, 2010 at 1:47 PM, Donald Douglas <americanpowerblog@gmail.com> wrote:
Do you want me to relay any messages to McCain. We are friends. So far I'm not getting in the middle of this. But I can relay a message if you want. And personally, do you think your reaction is kinda strong? I mean, Erik Kain doesn't link my attacks on him. Of course, everything I've ever said about E.D. Kain is true, which is why he's pissed about it.DonaldOn Sat, Dec 4, 2010 at 10:42 AM, Barrett Brown <barriticus@gmail.com> wrote:
Absolutely not. Again, he is making public claims that my terming of Hastings as my "colleague" is evidence that I am mentally unstable. Again, I have provided proof that this is not the case since I do have a mutual relationship with Hastings. Again, he has failed to acknowledge that. I have retained this lawyer for years and she has never before recommended that I take action. I know that he surrounds himself with people who don't think I have a case - because they have not read my response and also because they dislike me - but obviously I am going to take my lawyer's advice more seriously than the opinions of those who are not familiar the situation and with what's gone on behind the scenes.

Just to keep you updated, you may have seen that I'm having my lawyer get in touch with McCain. I have never taken legal action against another writer before and am only doing so in this case because McCain has refused to even link to my response to his factually erroneous account of my relationship with Michael Hastings, in particular. I am simply trying to get him to do what he is now demanding that Tim Rogers of D Magazine do - run my response to his damaging and knowingly malicious attacks. McCain has claimed that my belief that Hastings is my "colleague" is evidence of a break with reality. He has claimed this despite the fact that Hastings provided the cover blurb for my upcoming book and despite the fact that Hastings has been involved in Project PM from the very beginning, as is once again explained in the response to which he refuses to link and from which has excerpted a dozen words in order to give the impression that what is said in those words is the full extent of our relationship; he will not even reproduce the entire sentence because it would demonstrate that he has lied about me, and the fact that he has chosen to take this tact may not hurt him in the eyes of his readership, since they are not even aware of it and would not care anyway since I am the "enemy," but it strengthens my case against him by further demonstrating his malicious and willful intent. I'm sure you two are friends, which is fine, but I just wanted to draw attention to what it is that he has done. I have always given McCain a chance to respond to everything I've said about him, even in advance in the case of my book, and have never failed to link to and even reproduce those responses. The fact that he is reluctant to do so in this case should tell you something about his character and about the nature of this particular situation.

I wanted to hang with some small government conservatives for once so I can actually say things like maybe "health care" is not actually, you know, a "human right." Plus I'm fond of Erik Kain, who's joined Project PM. Apparently they're not fond of you and won't link to you, but I don't see why. I actually just told Kain about how we're friendly now, but I guess you guys have a history. I'm also guessing you saw McCain's piece on how I'm probably going to launch a violent attack on some government facility because I own guns and am apparently going nowhere in my career; I just responded to him at The League. Meanwhile, I can assure you and everyone else that I am not actually planning on killing anyone until such point as I can raise enough money to do it properly and in a widespread fashion. How's everything with you?--
