Wynne-

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you; I've been travelling in support of something I'm putting together and haven't been checking my e-mail.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help to the campaign, but the important thing is that you made one of the nation's earliest attempts at running for national office as an open atheist, and in a hostile environment at that. I'm also pleased that you were willing to try something new regarding the reddit bid. As you note, this was not a favorable election cycle by any means.

I'd be more than happy to work with you on any book you might produce from the journal you wrote, and I think your general proposition is solid. I'm working with an agent right now on getting my second book put out by one of the larger publishers and additionally know a couple of other prominent agents with whom I've discussed projects in the past and I imagine that all of them would be interested in seeing a proposal of your book. Let me know when you're ready to discuss the project a bit further and we can set up a time to talk by phone.

Dear Barrett,

It was a pleasure to work with you on the campaign. Your assistance was greatly appreciated. This was not a good year for Democrats, let alone Democrats running against long-standing incumbent Republicans. I would have liked to debate with Randy Forbes but he did his best to avoid me. Although I understand that he did not want to give me any additional publicity, his dishonesty and refusal to debate showed a clear lack of integrity on his part. Running openly as an atheist probably did not help my chances, but I don't think it's significantly hurt them. Of the five incumbent Republicans running in Virginia, four were challenged by Democrats. Although none of the races were close, I received the highest percentage of votes of any of the Democratic challengers. Although many people advised me not to be forthcoming about my lack of belief, I never seriously considered that approach. Only by being honest could I give my best effort. Also I was curious to see what that revelation would stir up. It certainly did cause some interesting discussion. I kept a journal of what happened day by day through the campaign. I plan to use this and write about the experience. If this becomes a book length document, I may need assistance with editing and publishing. I would like to stay in touch with you and ask for your assistance when I have a manuscript to be reviewed. Again, thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Wynne LeGrow
