Good.  The name-calling is way out of bounds by now.

Yep. I'm going to ban him when I can get into the site later today.

I can't help but answer (I love election night for the same reason I love baseball statistics and am going to get nothing done): I suppose I'm more or less indifferent.  A lot of that has to do with my problems with the County Clerk's Office (nothing new there) which resulted in my not getting an absentee ballot in time to actually vote (this is not the first time -- it's frustrating).  I'm kind of with Daniel Larison, in the, 'Oh dear.  The GOP has learned nothing from it's past mistakes, and they're going to have a majority' ( and sometimes with the Sully, "May God have mercy on our souls" addendum) camp.

I was frankly quite intrigued by Rand Paul at first; it didn't bother me that he wasn't a carbon copy of his father's views; it was mostly his inability to articulate them coherently that made me worry.  That and a roommate at the time who was an avid Tea Partier but knew nothing about Kentucky politics and got mad at me for having personally met and liked Trey Grayon (Paul's primary opponent).  I thought Aqua Buddha was the funniest thing this cycle -- until O'Donnell announced she isn't a witch.  And then Paladino got shitfaced on Halloween. (Really, it's been great.)  But what with Aqua Buddha/10 Commandments ads, and the curb-stomping, I was really torn between voting for Conway/Nick Naylor out of spite for the curb stomper, or wasting another US Senate vote on Wendell Berry.  (People think Daddy Paul's a crank?  Wait till they see Uncle Wendell at the podium...)  Then I was told there was no way they'd be able to get me a ballot in any sort of competent and/or timely fashion, and that was that.

I'm also one of those people who wants to throw the bums out -- just not my bum.  I like my Congressman; I also like Ben Chandler in KY-6, for mostly sentimental reasons.  (He's a Chandler!  It's Kentucky!  My great-grandfather would spin in his grave if a Chandler lost in his district!)  A friend who interned in D.C. says Baron Hill is a complete ass, and since we're done with Mike Sodrel, I don't care if he wins or loses.  I was really more concerned about the Louisville mayor's race than anything else on my erstwhile ballot.

As for the big picture: I'm certainly not in line with much of what the Democratic Party wants to do, but I trust them a hell of a lot more than the GOP.  I'm also kind of holding out for an Obama rope-a-dope post mid-terms, if only for aesthetic reasons.  (Okay, really because the only Republican I see being competent as president is Mitch Daniels, but he's not going to win the primaries.)  After all, he  lost New Hampshire, California, and a handful of others he "absolutely needed to win" -- and still pulled off the upset of Clinton.

As for the Tea Party phenomenon: I'm Jewish, applying to graduate English programs, and think Oakeshott should be required reading for all elected officials and political commentators (at least those pretending to be conservatives).  Of course angry populist rage sets off all sorts of alarm bells.  Most of them, however, are probably undeserved.

So I can't help but ask: where are y'all at with these midterm elections?

Since refocusing on Canadian politics, I've come to feel a lot more detached from your political ongoings. And so the whole thing sort of wafts across my consciousness in an almost surreal fashion. Were this a year ago, I may well have taken the day off work to watching things unfold. Not today, though.

But being as that the rest of you are in the thick of it, so to speak, I'm curious. Are you exhilirated? Hopeless? Terrified? Triumphant? Resigned? Indifferent? Angry?

Well, I almost made another one a few days ago reading some of the responses to Jason's post about the General Welfare Clause.  I think there were a few commenters that needed to be taken down a notch or two or ten.  Unfortunately, I've been extremely busy so I never had the chance to do it.

That said, I was pleased to see Jason post the Randy Barnett links since the individual mandate's constitutionality is not the slam dunk its supporters think it is and that this debate IS being played out in the legal mainstream.  Some of our commenters seem clueless to that fact.

The foreclosure mess has my attention these days.  I knew the origination-to-securitization model was rotten to the core but I didn't realize it was this bad.
