What browser are you using? I didn't notice any slow-down issues, but if it seems to be happening to a number of people then we could certainly remove it.

However, I believe that for most Youtube videos, next to the few choices they give you for sizes, there are two boxes. If you enter say 480 in the top (width) box, it will automatically generate the height in the second box....

But perhaps wider columns would be beneficial for comments, etc.

If you widen the central column just a bit, the videos will fit with no tinkering.  As an added bonus, we will get more room for nested comments.
