Re: General CV

We will need a plan for processing and storing this information before we solicit it.  We are already finding it a minor challenge to reduce inquirer-submitted information in the form of text  to more structured data in a spreadsheet for the Sci/Journ project.

102 people on the PM spreadsheet this morning; even a fractional return will yield an overwhelming amount of unstructured information.

It looks as if we can create a folder in Google docs and store the raw responses there, but that won't be easily searchable.

Once we have a website up, we can ask the members to enter their own data, much less laborious for us.

Yes, this one is geared towards all participants. It came up in chat that we were getting responses and then because we lacked work for people they were losing interest; I felt that assuring them upfront that we were collating skills (and, therefore, actually doing so) and keeping them on tap would resolve that.

Scott (and everyone else too), I won't be offended by any changes made, so edit away!

I do have a programmer one that I wrote up as well, which I am sending out... right now, to everyone on the PM spreadsheet with a Y in the "prog/dev" column.

It seems you are right and I was under an incorrect assumption. I thought this was the questionnaire for computer programmers. My apologies for the confusion.

Do you mean existing programmers versus the new blood?

Also, when we've finished this should we send it to existing members or just new ones?

Ok I have reverted and will make notes on the changes I proposed.

I fixed this up yesterday, let's revert and I'll personally integrate anything else that we decide upon.

I think it's an excellent idea to ask everybody what their skills and interests are and put the info in a database.  I don't think it is a good idea to share the information with everyone on the spreadsheet; here's why:

Since Project PM has no political, religious or limited-issue affiliation or orientation, people may tend to impute the affiliations or orientations of the members to us.  We have some people in our spreadsheet who are embroiled in controversies we are not interested in, however compelling those issues may be. That was the ultimate reason for ditching the Workshop PM; it appeared possible that we could get sucked into internet wars based on some of the names (including pseudonyms) we incautiously shared.

Hey, aady made response for people who express interest. This way they tell us what we need right off, and they know right off that we'll slot them in as we open up a need for their skills.
