The only thing I changed in the first couple of paragraphs is that I modified I’d to We’d, since moving forward we should be representing ourselves as an entity rather than as an individual, but that’s just my opinion.

With regards to the third paragraph, I’m an asshole and a word Nazi so I tried making the sentence as concise as possible. The same applies to original questions 2, 3, and 4.

For the first original question (expertise and interests), I thought it would be helpful to separate the question into two parts, with the idea that this will extract a greater amount of useful information, making our jobs easier.

I added two new questions based on feedback by Ed. G, which is to say that he will only work with a certain programming language, so I thought it useful to include new questions 4 & 5 as prerequisites.

Hello,

Thanks for expressing interest in Project PM.

We’d like to collect basic information about your skills, background, and interests so that we can help you get integrated. Note that this information will be stored in a spreadsheet which will be accessible to other members of Project PM (including each of you). Although that is a relatively small set of people, if that concerns any of you, we are happy to make arrangements to store your information more privately.

Please answer the following questions at your earlier convenience, and get it back to us so we can coordinate the upcoming phases of growth.

1)  What are your primary areas of expertise?

2)  What are you main interests?

3)  Do you have any unique, relevant skills?

4)  Do you have any preferences? i.e. working in alone versus in a large group

5)  Do you have any requirements? i.e. only working in a particular language

6)  Do you have any specific questions?

7)  Do you have any specific suggestions?

8)  Bonus question - what’s your ultimate vision for human society?

Once you send this to us, we’ll take your answers and compare them to the Scantron© answer key. Grades will be distributed at the next class. If you didn’t use a number 2 pencil you’ll receive no score so plan accordingly. (Do they even make pencils anymore?)

In actuality, we’ll make note of your skill set and your interests and try to pair you up with a team working on something you’ll enjoy contributing to. Project PM is a very organic entity and is currently entering a phase of rapid growth; this means we might be able to get you slotted up immediately, and we may have a delay as we branch into areas closer to your interest or with a more general set of needs. We’ll keep in touch, and please don’t hesitate to do the same with us, as we’re a fairly friendly bunch. Usually. Sort of. Most of the time.

Looking forward to hearing from you, and working with you!

Regards,

Also, when we've finished this should we send it to existing members or just new ones?

I fixed this up yesterday, let's revert and I'll personally integrate anything else that we decide upon.

I think it's an excellent idea to ask everybody what their skills and interests are and put the info in a database.  I don't think it is a good idea to share the information with everyone on the spreadsheet; here's why:

Since Project PM has no political, religious or limited-issue affiliation or orientation, people may tend to impute the affiliations or orientations of the members to us.  We have some people in our spreadsheet who are embroiled in controversies we are not interested in, however compelling those issues may be. That was the ultimate reason for ditching the Workshop PM; it appeared possible that we could get sucked into internet wars based on some of the names (including pseudonyms) we incautiously shared.

Hey, aady made response for people who express interest. This way they tell us what we need right off, and they know right off that we'll slot them in as we open up a need for their skills.
