As a software developer from the silicon valley I am definitely interested in the topic of how relatively simple technology can be used to vastly improve government.
One thing I'd really like to see congress do is develop an xmls or microformat standard for bills that would allow 3rd parties or even the government themselves to read, search and track changes to legislation even perhaps before they're voted on. Possible advances on this technology could allow simplified views on costs and savings of bills that wouldn't rely as heavily on the due diligence of the author.
