As a couple of you know, I've just been brought on as a pro
bono advisor to
the Wynne LeGrow campaign (VA-04), for which I'm
now writing speeches, press releases, and op-eds, as well as explaining
such things as net neutrality to LeGrow, who has also been
extraordinarily receptive to the sort of methods that Project PM is
working to popularize; as seen here, I've had him agree to answer some
questions among the 250 or so that have been asked by members of reddit
so far this afternoon. I've also promised, with his permission, that
should he take office, LeGrow's office would create a subreddit wherein
anyone could submit policy information or even proposals for new
legislation, which would make him the first congressman to rely on this
sort of crowd-sourced advisory method. At any rate, LeGrow announced
early in the campaign that he's an atheist; his opponent, Randy Forbes,
is founder of the Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation and once
introduced legislation by which Congress would have affirmed that "The
Holy Bible is God's Word," which is, uh, yeah. LeGrow's almost
certainly going to lose - he was polling at 30% when I joined up - but
this is a great opportunity to not only make arguments about
secularism, but also to showcase such things as the reddit promise,
which was well-received. We've also managed to
recruit several people today, three of whom have strong backgrounds in
IT.
Anyway, the Skeptical Inquirer announcement should go up soon,
and in the meantime we've recruited several writers to participate. If
any of you would be interested in advising a freelancer yourself, or if
you have a colleague who might, let me know.
