Mark,
Thanks for pointing out the MIT event. I watched their
About video and found it very interesting. I've passed along the link, and
I'm confident theyll feel the same way.
With regards to developing underdeveloped regions in
Africa, some of our members have actual boots on the ground experience
and/or strong ties to major aide groups and NGO's. Also, one of the potential
financial suitors that Project PMs founder, Barrett Brown, is in communication
with has extensive experience participating in philanthropic works in these
regions.
Barrett is an author and regular contributor to Vanity Fair, who has appeared on TV on several occasions. Other members number almost 80 and they are a mix of individuals across the globe with varying skill sets and expertise. Participants range from a former CIA Directorate of Operations and the current Director of the University Center for Innovation in Teacher and Education at Case Western Reserve to a project manager specialized in Internet strategy and development for firms such as the Mozilla Foundation and John Hopkins University, and a jazz guitarist turned award-winning Blogger.
The ultimate goal of Project PM is to best utilize information technology along with our collective knowledge base to better the world in any and every aspect possible.
Would you mind telling me more about what you do? What exactly did you speak about at the National Society of Professional Journalists?
Scott
P.S. I have CC-ed Barrett Brown and another individual were working with to this email.
I'm very interested. Just talked about this at the national Society of Professional Journalists meeting.
And I'm attending Legatum at MIT on October 28-29. http://legatum.mit.edu/conference2010_registration
I also met Monday with VC, microfinance and innovation entrepreneurs active in Africa, Haiti and India.
Yes, tell me more.
Mark

The project's goals are multifaceted but to summarize; we'd like to improve the distribution of accurate and informative news, couple journalists with scientists in order to make useful information more readily available to the masses, and to help develop undeveloped regions of Africa with as much efficiency as attainable.
