I think the administrators should just be housekeepers, keeping the lists current, keeping track of things, recommending improvements, following up to see if the substantive participants are happy.  However, knowledge of journalism and science will be useful in said housekeeping.

Media experts: someone might be both a writer and a media expert, so that person would have two categories (will necessitate another column (media expert Y/N) for sorting if some people have more than one role.

A media expert should be someone who has useful media experience or knowledge (Gina Acosta, Barrett Brown, Charles Johnson), so all they would do (in that role) is give advice.

And in the media expert role, I think the writers likely to be useful in such a role will self-identify as such, if asked.  Then if you want to bring in publishing pros like Gina to be solely a media expert, that's good, too.

What specific roles should administrators play? Are the media experts included in this role?

I don't see a big risk if we let people self-assign their roles, if someone turns out to be an incompetent writer or bogus scientist, that will be quickly self-evident when they get to the marketing stage and the problem will fix itself, so if Tark wants to write, thats ok, too.  But I was thinking of him more as an administrator, one who has some greater degree of scientific knowledge than, say, me.
