Deep Ellum is a good topic. It's already on your list. Now, on that list, your name appears beside the topic. Stay tuned for details on length and deadline. On Wed, Oct 6, 2010 at 4:27 PM, Barrett Brown <barriticus@gmail.com> wrote:
Hi, Tim-Would you be interested in piece describing how Deep Ellum now appears to be heading towards a revitalization that will most likely begin in earnest in 2011? Trees has reopened, for instance, and I can get quotes from Lou Reese, Jr., who owns a lot of the property, as well as from proprietors of some of the day restaurants. Otherwise, I'll try to thing of something else.

Dear Trusted Freelance Writer Person:
We need your help.
For our January issue, we thought we'd tell our readers what they need to know in 2011, and because we like numbers, we figured we'd come up with 20 things to share. Some of these will be short; heck, maybe 100 words will get it done. Others will be longer, maybe 1,000 words.
What? You want some examples? Okay:
--Sarah Jaffe is going to break out on the national scene.
--The Rangers will not repeat this season's success (or they will).
--Ben Fountain will finally publish his long-awaited novel "The Texas Itch."
--People will wait in lines to eat an In-N-Out Burger.
--Tom Leppert will defeat Angela Hunt and be reelected mayor.
Note: the above ideas were generated in a brainstorming session. There's no such thing as a bad idea in a brainstorm, right? But they should give you an idea of where we're headed. Each one of these ideas would require actual journalism-style reporting. If you're going to say that Tom Leppert will get reelected, then you'd better get on the horn and talk to some political analyst types who can break down a rationale (even if they'll only talk on background).
So let's hear some ideas. Here's a great excuse to call anyone you're interested in and ask them, "Whatchew got going for next year?" (Note: the deadline for our January issue rapidly approaches. Don't dally.)
