I think Exum would be a great addition. In a superficial Google search the only sour note I found was this complaint about bias in a book review, which appears to have been a screw-up by the Washington Post editorial staff, not by Exum. I liked the teaser preview of his book, but it appears to be out of print (published 2004), so not sure I can get a paper copy of it. His current online writing about national security is intelligent and not ideologically loaded. He is currently on the crest of a wave of recognition, so I would wonder if he has much time to become involved in additional activities. But I would say go ahead and contact him. Given Exum's history, Michael Hastings must be familiar with him.

I had not heard of Exum or the think tank he is affiliated with, a fact which triggers a couple of stray thoughts:

--reinforces the potential value of something like Project PM: here I am a curious person with few responsibilities who spends an hour or two online every day, and yet I am unaware of this apparently influential think tank whose founders moved on to significant jobs in the Administration--so an accessible process that surfaces things like the writings of Exum and his colleagues to wider familiarity would indeed be valuable.

--most people are probably as uninformed about think tanks as I am, so writing that covers this field, written with some color and liveliness
might find an audience.

Thanks for getting in touch with that. I've actually heard of him before, and having just glanced at his blog it seems that he also has an interest in media criticism, so perhaps he'd be interested. Again, I appreciate the suggestion.
