At the time you told me you were doing this article for them, I was unfamiliar with D Magazine, so I browsed the online edition: I was above all impressed by how beautiful the women in Dallas are (and relative to the women, the dorkiness of the men--I trust you are leveraging this disparity).  Anyhow, if you had been writing about hair treatments rather than arms treaties, there might have been less puzzlement.

(However, lest you think I am talking down Texas, a couple of weeks ago I noticed a photo array in the bankrupt Chicago Tribune "Seen at the city's Hottest Clubs" (or something) which was remarkably similar to the photos in D, although the Chicago women were maybe not quite so uniformly hot as those in Dallas (though the men were not much to look at here, either).  What was more remarkable in the Trib's array was that everyone photographed was very white, in a city where we are 30 percent of the population.

Here's an amusing example of how even publications like D Magazine - which makes huge profits and pays well and is otherwise infused with enough cash that one expect it to be of a certain caliber - suffer from severe problems of just basic competence. Start from the bottom.

Hi, Krista-

No problemo.

1. There were indeed hundreds in attendance throughout the event and possibly as many as a thousand as your fact checker estimates; the mention of 200 people was an edits added by Tim, whom I've cc'd on this so that you guys can decide what to do.

2. This other line refers to the SALT, START, and SORT treaties which were negotiated and/or updated by all of the U.S. presidents mentioned.

I'll be around all day so let me know if there are any other questions.

Hey Barrett,
I have a couple things remaining on fact checking, and I was wondering if you could help me find them. Unfortunately, we're on a tight deadline to get this confirmed, so if there's any way you can point me in the right direction before this afternoon, I'd greatly appreciate it.

1. Our fact checker said there were about 1000 people who attended the rally that you lead with. Were there only 200 people who were at Metzger's speech?
2. She was unable to confirm this statement: "....a series of treaties that were updated by George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and area man George W. Bush, and which eventually resulted in an 80 percent reduction of all nuclear weapons."

Thanks for your help!
Krista
